A World Without Global Communication
It is the year 2037 and Jess Smith is a 18 year old girl planning to go visit her grandpa Tony for the summer to pursue her passion of photography before she goes to college. Tony lives on a farm in the countryside of Spain. Jess lives with her father, Tom who happens to be the Secretary of Defense for the United States of America.Tom is extremely nervous for his daughter to be gone for the summer, but he could have never expected the worst to come true..
The only way for Tom to contact Jess is through the underground tube system that was created, which essentially is a system of millions of tubes that go under the earth's surface and people can send information through that to communicate globally. The system, which is called “Tel-Tube” has many flaws and is quite slow. Also, Tom is very worried because there has been an immense amount of news coverage regarding the growing tensions between Spain and China and the threat of war is very high
Jess arrives in Spain and she immediately senses a feeling of fear and darkness amongst the Spanish people.The drive to his farm is about two hours from the airport, so there is plenty of time to catch up with her grandpa and also gives Jess the opportunity to ask about the current situation between Spain and China. Jess asks Tony about what is really happening and he tells her that since there is no way for the government to communicate with the army once they are deployed on a mission, many missions have resulted in failure due to changes in the Chinese military's location.
Tom is sitting in his office in The Pentagon and he gets a knock on his door.His assistant reveals that the U.S military just got news that China is planning a series of secret attacks on Spain which will begin in a week. Tom’s heart immediately sinks in his chest, as his worst nightmare just came true. He wishes more than anything that there was a way for him to be able to instantly communicate with his daughter, but sadly he cannot. His assistant also tells him that this is top secret information and that the U.S is deciding whether or not to tell Spain, as they are unsure if they want to get involved. Tom is now faced with an internal battle between saving his daughter and what is best for the world....
