The next two days are horrible for Tom, as he is facing an internal battle between his desire to protect his daughter and his duty to protect the best interest of the country. He attempts multiple times to convince the U.S to inform Spain of the impending attacks and evacuate all their citizens, but he is faced with resistance from his colleagues because if the U.S informs Spain then there is a chance China will view the U.S as an enemy. Tom knows he is running out of time to get to his daughter, and he knows he will not be able to live with himself if anything were to happen to her. Therefore, against all instructions from the U.S government and the guarantee Tom will lose his job that he loves so much , he decides family is more important than anything and books a flight to Spain to get Jess to safety
